Terms of service
These terms govern your use of Rentrium. They are not the rental contract — that is between you and the rental company you book with, on that company’s own terms.
Who we are
Rentrium is established in Greece, with its registered office at Χρήστου Λαδά 34, 11147, Αττική. ΑΦΜ 803418067, ΔΟΥ ΚΕΦΟΔΕ Αττικής.
You can reach us at support@rentrium.gr.
1. What Rentrium is, and what it is not
Rentrium is a marketplace.
Rental companies list their own vehicles here, set their own prices, set their own rental terms, and hand you the keys. We built the part in between: the search, the booking, the step that takes you to the rental company’s own payment page when it takes payment online, and the rules about what a listing is allowed to claim.
When you book, the rental contract is between you and the rental company named on your booking. We are not a party to it. Every company listing here does so as a business, on its own declaration to us when it registered.
We do not check rental companies beyond what it takes to list, except that we look each company’s ΑΦΜ up in ΓΕΜΗ, the General Commercial Registry; its answer does not by itself decide whether the company may list vehicles. A company gives us a Greek ΑΦΜ in a valid format and the name under which it is shown to its customers; its registered name is filled in from ΓΕΜΗ when ΓΕΜΗ has an active business on record under that ΑΦΜ and the company has not already given one, and is otherwise given by the company itself; either way the company can change it afterwards. It confirms its email address and keeps its subscription with us paid; if it takes payment online, it also connects its own account with a payment provider. It is not required to show us a rent-a-car licence, an insurance policy, a ΚΤΕΟ certificate or a vehicle registration. We do not inspect vehicles, we do not check that a listing is accurate, and we do not monitor whether a vehicle’s insurance or ΚΤΕΟ is current. Nothing here should be read as us vouching for a company or a vehicle.
2. How responsibility is divided between us and the rental company
Because two businesses are involved in one rental, this section says plainly which of us does what. It is not a disclaimer; it is the allocation.
We are responsible for the search, the booking, taking you to the rental company’s payment page when you pay online, sending you the confirmation and the reference, showing you the rental company’s terms before you book and storing a record of them, working out any refund the company’s cancellation rule gives you and requesting it through the company’s payment provider, and routing a complaint to the right place.
The rental company is responsible for the vehicle and its condition, its roadworthiness and insurance, what its listing says, the terms of the rental itself, the desk and the handover, the payment you make at its desk, the deposit, anything charged at the counter, any refund its payment provider cannot make through Rentrium, and any damage claim afterwards.
Where something goes wrong, that division is where to start. If the fault is ours, bring it to us. If it is the rental company’s, we will tell you so, tell you which company it is, and pass on what you ask us to — but we cannot decide a dispute about a rental we are not a party to.
3. When these terms apply
These terms apply whenever you use the Rentrium website or app — whether you make a booking, create an account, or only browse.
A booking already made is governed by the terms in force when it was made, and by the rental company’s terms as they were stored with it.
4. Making a booking
You do not need an account. A booking asks for your name and an email address. A telephone number and driver details — age, driving-licence number, the country that issued it, its expiry date, date of birth — are optional, and are passed to the rental company so it knows whom to expect.
You choose a vehicle, dates and times, and any extras; you enter your details; you see the total, how you will pay and the rental company’s terms; and you press the button that makes the booking, which says what it does. Pressing it is what commits you. Where the company takes payment online, that button takes you to its payment page, and until the payment succeeds nothing is fixed: you can go back and change anything you have entered.
Each rental company chooses whether its customers pay online or at its desk, and the booking page tells you which before you book. A booking paid online is confirmed as soon as the payment succeeds; no rental company has to approve it first. A booking you pay at the desk has nothing charged online: it is confirmed at once or, where the company approves such bookings itself, it is a request until the company answers, and we email you its answer. Either way we email you a booking reference, and that reference is what opens, changes or cancels the booking.
When you pay online you have about thirty minutes to complete payment. While you are paying we hold the vehicle for you; if the payment is not completed in that time the hold is released and the vehicle goes back on sale. A request waiting for the company’s answer holds the vehicle for you until the company answers.
Treat the booking reference like a password. Anyone who has it can view, change or cancel your booking without signing in, and can add photographs of the vehicle to the booking on your side. Give it to nobody except the rental company, which has it already.
A booking is refused, and no money is taken, if the vehicle is not available for your dates, if your pickup or drop-off falls outside the branch’s opening hours, or if the rental is shorter or longer than the company allows.
5. Who the customer is, and who drives
The person who makes the booking is our customer, and these terms are with them. The main driver may be somebody else, and there may be additional drivers.
If you book for somebody else you are telling us you have their authority to do so, and it is your job to pass on to them what you were shown before you booked — the rental company’s terms above all, because those bind whoever drives.
The rental company’s requirements at the desk — age, licence, an International Driving Permit where it asks for one, a card in the main driver’s name — apply to whoever is driving, not to whoever booked.
6. The price, and what sits outside it
The price shown for a vehicle is the total for your rental period, including every mandatory charge of the booking itself: the rental days, any extras you added, and any delivery fee.
We never add a platform fee. Our commission is paid by the rental company; it is never added to your price and never appears on your booking or your receipt. We charge no young-driver fee and no age-based fee. A driver age you enter is passed to the rental company and never changes your price.
Nothing optional is added for you. Extras are added only when you choose them, nothing is pre-selected, and nothing reaches your total unless you put it there.
Two things sit outside that total and are settled at the counter, not by us. The security deposit, where a listing shows one, is arranged with the rental company at pickup — we never charge it and never place a hold on your card for it. And the insurance excess, together with anything else the company’s terms make payable at the desk, such as fuel under a full-to-empty policy or extras you add on the day.
If a charge was not shown to you before you booked, you do not have to pay it. Whatever the rental company declared is on the booking page and recorded against your booking. A charge it never declared is not part of your contract and you are entitled to refuse it at the desk. Tell us if that happens.
A rental day is 24 hours from your pickup time. Any part of a further day is charged as a full day, subject to the grace period the rental company sets.
Prices shown to you include Greek VAT where it applies.
7. Payment
How you pay depends on the rental company, and the booking page says which before you book. A company either takes payment online, into its own account with a payment provider, or has you pay at its desk when you collect the vehicle.
When you pay online, you pay the rental company named on your booking. You enter your card details on its payment provider’s own page, and they go straight to that provider: we never see, receive or store your card number or security code, and your money does not pass through Rentrium. The rental itself is supplied by, contracted with and invoiced by that company.
Paying online pays the rental company. When your payment succeeds, your obligation to pay the rental price is discharged in full, and the company cannot ask you to pay the rental price again at the desk. What you may still owe there is only what the previous section describes — the deposit, and anything the company’s own terms make payable at the counter.
When you pay at the desk, nothing is charged online: you pay the rental company directly, on its terms, when you collect the vehicle. Either way, no mechanism exists anywhere in Rentrium by which we could charge you without your completing a payment yourself, or charge you after your rental has ended.
8. Why there is no 14-day right to change your mind
Under EU and Greek consumer law you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a contract made at a distance. That right does not apply to a vehicle booked for a specific date and time — the same exemption that covers accommodation, transport and leisure services booked for a set date. It depends on your having chosen a specific date and time, which you do before you book.
What you have instead is the rental company’s cancellation policy. It is shown to you in full before you book, it is copied onto your booking at that moment, and it is described below.
This is about the booking, not about your Rentrium account. An account is free, you pay us nothing for it and it has no fixed period; you can close it whenever you like, and a later section explains how.
9. The rental company’s own terms
Each rental company sets its own rental terms: insurance and excess, fuel policy, minimum driver age, whether an International Driving Permit is required, whether the vehicle may leave the country, mileage limits, and its cancellation policy.
Those terms are shown to you in full on the booking page itself, before you book, and a copy of them as they stood at that moment is stored with your booking. A rental company changing its terms later cannot change what applies to a booking already made.
What we store is our own record of what applied, kept in English whatever language you were reading in, and the parts the rental company wrote itself stay in the language it wrote them in. The cancellation rules are stored as the two numbers they are made of and shown back to you in your own language. If you need to know exactly what you were shown, ask us and we will tell you what the record holds.
A rental company writes its own text in its own language, and we do not translate it. We translate Rentrium; we do not translate what a company writes about its vehicles, its insurance, its cancellation notes or its extras. So a term on the booking page may be in Greek even when the rest of the page is in your language. If you cannot read something that matters to you, do not book it — ask the rental company, or ask us and we will ask on your behalf.
Where a company has not specified something — insurance cover, for example — the listing says so rather than filling in a default. Do not assume a vehicle carries insurance, or any particular excess, unless the listing says so.
Eligibility is checked at the desk, not by us. A minimum driver age, a licence category, how long you have held your licence, an International Driving Permit: these are the rental company’s requirements and the company checks them when you arrive. We do not verify any of them and will not stop you booking a vehicle you turn out not to be eligible to drive. If you arrive without what the company requires, it may refuse the rental under its own terms, and the fate of your money is then between you and that company.
10. Changing a booking
You can change your dates, times or vehicle through your booking reference or your account, while the booking is confirmed and before pickup.
- If the change makes the rental cheaper and you paid online, the difference is refunded to you in the way the next section describes for refunds; if that refund is attempted through the rental company’s payment provider and fails at that moment, the change is not made, and your booking keeps its dates, vehicle and price. If you pay at the desk, you simply pay the lower total there.
- If it makes the rental more expensive and you paid online, the difference cannot be taken online: ask the rental company to make the change instead, so it can collect the difference directly. If you pay at the desk, the change goes through and you pay the higher total there.
- A change does not re-open the rental company’s terms. What you were shown when you booked still applies.
- Extras cannot be added or removed by changing a booking. Ask the rental company.
11. Cancelling, and what you get back
This section is about bookings made through Rentrium, whether you pay online or at the desk. If a rental company entered your booking itself, at its own counter, none of it applies: that booking is entirely between you and the company, and we can neither cancel it nor refund it.
The rules are the rental company’s, not ours, and the exact numbers are shown to you before you book and stored with your booking. Where you paid online there are three outcomes.
- You cancel inside the free-cancellation window — by default 48 hours before pickup, though each company sets its own and some set none — and you are refunded in full, extras and any delivery fee included.
- You cancel after that window but before your pickup time, and you are refunded the total less a late-cancellation fee: the booked daily rate multiplied by the number of days the company has set. The refund can fall to zero, but cancelling can never create a charge.
- You cancel at or after your pickup time, or the rental has already started: online cancellation is not possible and nothing is refunded automatically. Contact the rental company.
Where you pay at the desk, nothing was charged online, so cancelling refunds nothing and costs you nothing through Rentrium. A late-cancellation fee that the company’s rule provides for cannot be collected through Rentrium: whether the company can claim it from you is a matter between you and the company.
If the rental company cancels a confirmed booking you paid online, you are refunded in full with no late-cancellation fee, whenever that happens. You did nothing wrong, so its fee does not apply.
A refund goes back to the card you paid with, through the rental company’s payment provider, for the full amount the policy gives you, with no payment-processing cost deducted. Where that provider does not let the refund be made through Rentrium, the rental company makes it to you directly: we tell you so, and we tell the company the exact amount. If the provider does not complete a refund we have asked it to make, we ask it again until the refund is made or the provider tells us it cannot be made through Rentrium, in which case the rental company makes it as above; until then, the page for your booking shows it as not yet made.
If you do not turn up for a booking you were to pay at the desk, the rental company can report a no-show once the pickup time has passed. Doing so cancels the booking, the page for your booking shows that it was reported, and we record who reported it and when. If you do not turn up for a booking you paid online, nothing is refunded automatically. Either way, any remedy is a matter for you and the rental company.
12. At the counter, and afterwards
The deposit, the fuel policy, the condition check, any extras you add on the day and any damage are all between you and the rental company, under its terms. Rentrium is not a party to any of it and cannot charge you for any of it.
If a rental company records a damage claim against your rental, we may show it to you and pass messages between you. That is a record and a communication, not a charge. We hold no authority to bill you beyond what you already paid, and no mechanism to do so exists.
From the moment a booking is confirmed, you and the rental company can each add photographs of the vehicle to a record the two of you share on that booking. Unless the booking is cancelled — after which no more can be added — the period for doing so lasts at least until 48 hours after the booked drop-off time. While the rental company has the vehicle marked as picked up, that period does not end; once the company has marked it as returned, the period ends 48 hours after the latest of the booked drop-off time, the moment the return was marked and the moment the return handover was recorded. There is a limit on how many photographs can be added through each of the routes described below, and the booking page shows it.
Each of you sees every photograph the other adds to this record, with the time we received it and the route it came through: the booking reference, your account, or the rental company. That label records the route, not who took the photograph — anyone who holds the booking reference can add photographs on your side, and the rental company holds it too. The company can also keep handover photographs of its own; those are not part of this record and are not shown to you. A booking the company took at its own desk has the same record, and you can reach it once you have the booking reference. We send you no booking confirmation for such a booking, but if the company recorded your email address, we may email you the reference in a pickup reminder or a review invitation; the company can also give it to you.
A photograph can be removed only within 15 minutes of being added, and only through the route that added it: from your account, if the photograph was added there; from the device that added it with the booking reference, which keeps a one-time key for it only until the page or the app is closed; or by the member of the rental company’s staff who added it. After those 15 minutes the photograph stays on the booking for as long as the booking record is kept, and neither you nor the rental company can remove it. We can still remove a photograph where the law or these terms require it — after a report that it is unlawful, for example — and we keep a record that we did.
We keep this record, but we do not assess the photographs in it and we do not decide from them who is responsible for anything they show: that stays between you and the rental company. Photograph the vehicle rather than people. If another person, or another vehicle’s number plate, appears in a photograph you add, you are responsible for having added it.
13. Reviews
Every review comes from a booking with that rental company that was confirmed and never cancelled, and is written by the customer whose booking it was, from an account with a confirmed email address, after the rental period has ended. A cancelled booking — including one the company reported as a no-show — and a booking still awaiting payment or the company’s confirmation cannot be reviewed. There is one review per booking, within 90 days of drop-off.
You can edit or delete your own review at any time. A rental company cannot hide, edit or delete a review written about it. It gets one public reply, which it also cannot change. Reviews are published with your first name only.
14. How search results are ordered
When you search we show the vehicles available for your dates at the places you asked for. Unless you choose otherwise they are ordered newest-listed first: the vehicle most recently added to Rentrium appears at the top. Nothing else affects that order — not price, not rating, not distance, and no commercial arrangement of any kind.
You can re-order them yourself by cheapest total, dearest total or best-rated company. The totals used are the priced totals for your dates rather than daily rates, because the two differ whenever a seasonal rate covers part of your rental — which is exactly when you are most likely to be comparing. Sorting and filtering are applied across every vehicle matching your search, not only the ones on screen.
The “Highly rated” badge is calculated from review data alone. It cannot be bought, requested or switched on, and it never changes the order of your results. We do not accept payment for placement, and no rental company can pay to rank higher. If that ever changes, any paid placement will be labelled as advertising in the results themselves.
15. Using the platform properly
Do not use Rentrium to make bookings you do not intend to honour; do not scrape, copy or systematically extract listings; do not try to reach another person’s booking or account; do not interfere with the service; and do not upload anything unlawful, defamatory or infringing.
Anything you write — a review, a message, a photograph — must be yours to publish and must be truthful.
16. Reporting something illegal
If you believe a listing, a review, a photograph or a message on Rentrium is unlawful, tell us at support@rentrium.gr. Say what the item is and where it is — a link is best — explain why you believe it is unlawful, and give us a name and an email address so that we can reply.
Tell us the report is made in good faith and to the best of your knowledge. We will confirm we have received it without undue delay, decide in a timely, careful and non-arbitrary way, tell you what we decided and why, and tell you what you can do if you disagree.
A report precise and substantiated enough to let us see the illegality without a detailed legal examination puts us on notice, and we act on it. You can write to the same address about anything else on the platform: a person reads it, not only an automated system.
17. If we remove something, or restrict your account
We may remove content that breaches these terms and, where a breach is serious or repeated, restrict or suspend an account.
If we remove or hide something you posted, or restrict what you can post, we will tell you what we did and for how long; the facts we relied on and whether the matter reached us as a report or from our own checks; whether any automated system was involved in the decision — today none is, a person decides; the rule or the law we relied on and why we think your content breached it; and how you can challenge it.
We may also suspend an account for reasons unconnected with anything you posted — repeated chargebacks, suspected card fraud, bookings made with no intention of honouring them. In those cases too we will tell you what we have done, why, and how to reach us about it, unless the law prevents us.
We do not monitor everything posted on Rentrium, and we are not required to.
18. Closing your account
You can close your Rentrium account whenever you like, from your account settings. You do not need to give a reason and it costs you nothing. If we change these terms and you do not want the new version, closing your account is how you leave.
Closing it removes your saved driver and licence details and the reviews you have written. It does not cancel bookings you have already made: those continue on the rental company’s terms, and the company keeps the details it was given, because it has to keep a record of a completed rental. Nor does it remove the photographs you added to a booking: they stay on it, without the link to your account.
After your account is gone, the booking reference we emailed you is the only way to open, change or cancel a booking still to come. Keep it. Our privacy policy explains what else survives, and for how long.
19. Availability
We try to keep Rentrium running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or withdraw features of the platform where we have a good reason to, and we will not do so in a way that affects a booking you have already made.
20. What we are responsible for
We are responsible for running the platform properly: for the booking you made being the booking that reaches the rental company, for the amount you are asked to pay online being the total of your booking, and for the rental company’s terms being shown to you accurately and stored as they stood at that moment.
We are not responsible for the rental itself — the condition, safety, roadworthiness, insurance or availability of the vehicle, or how the rental company behaves. Those are that company’s responsibility under its contract with you.
Nothing here limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence and liability for fraud. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything written in these terms.
21. Where you live makes no difference to what you pay
We do not charge you a different price, apply different terms, or refuse you a booking because of your nationality, where you live or where your business is established. We do not refuse a card, or charge more for it, because of the country it was issued in or where your bank is.
We never send you to a different language version of the site automatically. You choose your language, and whichever version you were reading stays available.
A rental company’s own requirements at the desk are its own, but it may not apply any of them on the basis of your nationality or residence either. A requirement for a card in the main driver’s name is legitimate; a requirement for a card issued in a particular country is not.
22. If something goes wrong
Tell us first. Write to support@rentrium.gr with your booking reference. We will acknowledge your complaint and tell you what we can and cannot do about it — including where the answer is that the matter is between you and the rental company, and which company that is.
If we cannot resolve it, you can take a consumer complaint to the Συνήγορος του Καταναλωτή (the Greek Consumer Ombudsman) at synigoroskatanaloti.gr, to the Γενική Γραμματεία Εμπορίου και Προστασίας Καταναλωτή on 1520, or to the consumer body of your own country if you are outside Greece.
23. Law and courts
These terms are governed by Greek law.
If you are a consumer, that choice does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country as well as in Greece. We may bring proceedings against you only in the courts of the country where you live.
These terms are written for consumers. If you list vehicles on Rentrium as a business, your relationship with us is governed by a separate agreement rather than by these terms.
24. Language
These terms are published in Greek and in the other languages the site is offered in. The Greek text is the authentic text.
You may in any event rely on the version that was presented to you when you booked: if a translation says less than the Greek, the version you read governs your booking, and any discrepancy is resolved in the way most favourable to you. This clause is about which text is authentic. It does not decide which law applies — the previous section does that, and if you are a consumer the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live applies to you whatever this document says.
25. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms only for a specified and serious reason — a change in the law, a change in how the platform works, a new service, or a security or fraud problem we have to close. We will say what the reason is.
A change takes effect prospectively and never re-opens a booking you have already made: a booking is governed by the terms in force when it was made, and by the rental company’s terms as they were stored with it. Where a change materially affects you we will tell you before it takes effect, and the current version, with its version number and date, is always on this page.
